Rhynchophorus Ferrugineus - Red Palm Weevil

Palm traps are extremely useful in monitoring & controlling Red palm weevil (Rhincophorus ferrugeneous) and Rhino Beetle (Rhinocerous oryctes) that are a big menace to Coconut, Oil Palm, Date Palm & Areca Nut plantations. Palm trap, is a bucket shaped container covered with a cap. Pheromone dispenser and weevil magnet are hung inside the palm trap by clamping/tying them on to the inner surfaced of cap. Holes provided on the cap and around the perimeter of the palm trap nearer to the cap serve as entry points for the weevils. The weevils & beetles attracted by the pheromone enter the trap thru the holes, fall into the water / feed mix at the bottom of the trap, drown & die.
